When I’m in the car by myself I like to listen to sports radio instead of music. One of the reasons is I’m a huge Lakers fan so I want the latest scoop on them, but mostly I find sports radio intriguing. The more opinionated the host, the more listeners tune in. One morning while listening to Colin Cowherd on ESPN radio, he used the term “celebrity quarterback” and it had practical applications for you and me.

In this episode learn the following points:

  • What successful quarterback have overcome that mediocre ones haven’t
  • Why feeling like “quitting” is a good thing
  • What this generation hates, but is priceless
  • The different question a victim vs. a victor asks him/herself

Are you a “celebrity quarterback?” How do you normally handle adversity? What’s one takeaway you can apply this week?

Millennials. A single word can conjure up varying descriptions and emotions. Some of the stereotypes about this generation are true, yet others are not. Instead of sitting here and complaining about the shortcomings of this group, I prefer to point out how to lead them effectively.

  • Why teaching isn’t about being the “best in your field
  • How body language is a warning sign for motivation

Nobody likes to fail. In fact, the more competitive you are, the more you hate to lose. Yet, failure is inevitable in life. It’s not a matter of “if,” but a matter of “when.” Surprisingly successful people experience failure more, not less, but it’s how you “frame” failure that makes all the difference in the world.

What if you chose to look at failure as feedback?

In this episode, we’ll look at the following:

  • What dreaming and growth have in common
  • Why callouses that athletes develop relate to you
  • Why you should be seeking out feedback, regularly
  • The relationship between success and failure

When have you sought out feedback? How has this episode changed your approach towards failure? Please share your thoughts below!

National Coach Academy Review of Growing Forward

National Coach Academy

The professional coach behind the Growing Forward coaching service is a former youth pastor. This fact alone should give anyone looking for solid and effective coaching services reasons to be hopeful. Youth pastors help teenagers and young adults resolve personal issues and develop effective new attitudes as well as address attitudes and mindsets that may be holding them back. Best of all, youth pastors are trained to reach people on an emotional level in a ‘real’ and personal way without the often off-putting ‘clinical’ ambiance of professional psychotherapy or other more formal types of counseling.

Besides the training of the person behind Growing Forward, Scott Asai, what makes this particular coaching service interesting is that it focuses on a holistic ‘meaning-based’ approach to personal coaching. We all need a sense of meaning. We all need a sense of purpose. In fact, if we’re all honest, we can all trace our issues to how this deep and fundamental need is, or is not, being met in our lives.

Ever since I became a business owner, I assumed I had to do everything. I’m the coach, marketing department, sales team, operations director, etc. But recently I’ve been reading a book written by a friend called Dream Year and it made me rethink how I spend my time. In this episode, I’ll share my insights that I’ve learned about:

  • The difference between an artist and producer
  • Which one you are suited more towards
  • The myth about chasing your dreams
  • What you need as your dream gets bigger

So which one are you: the artist or the producer? Who do you need to surround yourself with to accomplish your dreams? Please share your thoughts below!

Winsight Episode 18: What Growth Tastes Like

Growth is necessary in order to succeed. If that’s a fact why doesn’t everyone want to grow? Answer: because it’s hard. Everyone wants to get rich quick, but not do the work to get there. We want to be in shape, but hate going to the gym and eating healthy. We want to have the best friends and relationships, but are quick to point out others’ flaws.

I can sit here and lecture you on how to grow, but that might be boring. Instead, let me focus in on another one of your senses that appeals to you, taste. Let’s face it. Some things will never taste good. Other things over time you build a tolerance for and you can actually trick your mind into thinking it actually isn’t half bad. Well, I’d like to think growth tastes like the second example I gave.

Let me explain the following in today’s episode:

  • How focusing on the benefits can override the pain involved to get there
  • The relationship of fear and growth
  • What a “green drink” has to do with growth
  • The 3 things you need to focus on in order to grow

So what does growth taste like to you? When have you experienced it before? Please share below because your stories inspire us!
